Dr. Praful Ramineni, MD is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Washington, D.C. who specializes in gender-affirming surgery, including Facial Feminization. With more than 15 years of working as a plastic surgeon and a case load of at least 600 procedures a year, Dr. Ramineni is an experienced choice for FFS. Dr. Ramineni spent more than 10 years in academic practice, performing complex reconstructive, microsurgery and aesthetic surgeries at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He served as the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery and instructed over 100 residents, earning him numerous teaching awards.

Driven by a desire to provide a more personalized experience for his patients, Dr. Ramineni left academic medicine and opened his private practice, District Plastic Surgery. The majority of his patients at District are transgender and non-binary and his staff has received training to provide the highest quality of gender-affirming care.

Gender-Affirming Face and Neck Surgery

Dr. Ramineni is experienced with a broad range of techniques used to feminize facial features through surgical manipulation of both bone and soft tissues. From the top of the face to the neck, Dr. Ramineni can recommend a treatment plan that's customized to your needs. This may include a single procedure or multiple procedures that can be done at the same time or staged. The most common procedures used in Facial Feminization Surgery are:

  • Brow Bone Reduction - Brow shaving or surgically altering the brow bone. Implants or fillers are sometimes used. Can be done in conjunction with Hairline Advancement and Brow Lift, transforming the upper third of the face.
  • Rhinoplasty - Modification of the contour of the nose, including the cartilage and bone structure, to make it smaller and more refined.
  • Chin Reduction - Feminizing the chin shape through shaving or implants with the goal of creating a more narrow, pointed and shorter chin.
  • Jaw Recontouring - Reducing the shape and size of the jaw, making it rounder and narrower at the corners near the back of the jawbone.
  • Cheek Augmentation - Produces fuller cheeks with a more feminine shape and projection, eliminating any sunken appearance and ultimately rejuvenating the mid-third of the face. Can be done with fat grafting or cheek implants.
  • Lip Augmentation and Lip Lift - Fuller lips are achieved with lip implants or fat grafting. Lip Fillers can also enhance the lips, however the results are temporary, lasting between six to twelve months. A Lip Lift shortens the distance between the bottom of the nose and the edge of the upper lip.
  • Tracheal Shave - Adam's Apple reduction.

Dr. Ramineni offers in-person, phone and virtual consultations at no cost. You'll have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like and view before-and-after photos from his previous FFS patients. The wait time for a consultation is two weeks. You can book your surgery following your consultation, with a wait of 2-4 months for a surgery date.

Costs and Financing
Most insurance policies don't cover Facial Feminization Surgery, deeming it cosmetic. Review your insurance booklet to find out if FFS is included in your coverage.
